Bitcoin Short Setup Below $82.5K as Longs Pile Up

Bitcoin is trading at $81,711.5 on the 1H chart. Price briefly lost $80,000 this week, bounced from a 48-hour low of $79,732.3, and is now stalling below a cluster of moving averages while the 48-hour high of $82,900.5 caps the upside. The structure is a low-volatility range with a mild bearish tilt, and positioning data suggests that range may not hold quietly.

Where price actually sits — PRICE 81,712, RSI 41.2

Indicator Analysis

Moving Averages

Price sits below all three key averages: MA20 at $81,883.1, MA60 at $81,814.2 and MA120 at $82,537.0. The MA20 and MA60 are nearly on top of each other, so the alignment is mixed and converging rather than cleanly bearish. The MA120 near $82,537 lines up with the $82,500 short-term resistance, which makes that zone a natural ceiling for any bounce.

→ Below the averages with no clear trend; $82,500 to $82,550 is the first serious overhead test.

RSI

RSI(14) reads 41.2. That is on the weak side of neutral but far from oversold, so sellers have the edge without being exhausted. There is room for another leg lower before any oversold bounce signal appears.

→ Mildly bearish momentum, and nothing here yet argues for catching a bottom.

MACD

The MACD histogram is at -47.2 and below the zero line, but it is rising, which means bearish momentum is fading rather than accelerating. This fits a market that is trying to base after the dip under $80K. The bounce has not yet turned into a bullish crossover above zero.

→ Downside momentum is easing, but bulls still need a zero-line cross to confirm.

Williams %R

Williams %R at -56.1 sits in the middle of its range, neither overbought nor oversold. Price is closer to the lower half of its recent high-low span, which is consistent with a market drifting rather than trending.

→ No extreme reading; this indicator gives no edge to either side today.

ATR

ATR(14) is $554.7, or 0.68% of price, a compressed reading for Bitcoin. Combined with a Bollinger Band width of only 1.87% (a squeeze) and ADX at 16.2, volatility is coiled. Squeezes like this tend to resolve with a sharp expansion, so stops should be sized around roughly 1 to 1.5 ATR rather than kept tight.

→ Expect a volatility expansion soon; give stops about $600 to $800 of room.

CCI

CCI(20) at -48.4 is negative but well inside the normal band. It confirms that price is trading below its recent average without signaling a breakdown or an oversold extreme.

→ Soft bearish bias, with no breakdown signal yet.

Stochastic

Stochastic %K at 43.9 is just above %D at 41.2, a small bullish cross in neutral territory. This supports the idea of a short-term bounce attempt. Crosses in the 40s tend to be weaker than those coming out of oversold levels.

→ A short-term upswing is possible, which favors selling into strength over chasing.

Keltner Channel

The Keltner midline is $81,765.5, with the upper band at $82,972.1 and the lower band at $80,558.9. Price is sitting just under the midline. The upper band almost exactly matches the 48-hour swing high of $82,900.5, so that area becomes a strong resistance confluence. The lower band near $80,560 sits just above the $80,000 psychological support.

→ Range edges are clear: about $82,900 to $82,970 on top and about $80,560 to $80,000 below.

On-Chain & Positioning

Bitcoin Short Setup Below $82.5K as Longs Pile Up

Funding rate: 0.01%, which is neutral. Longs are not paying a heavy premium yet, so there is no overheating on cost alone.

Long/short ratio: 1.74, with 63.5% of accounts long. Retail is leaning heavily to one side while price trades under its averages, which is the setup that tends to fuel long liquidations if support breaks.

Open interest: up 1.25% over 24 hours while price has been falling. New positions are being added into weakness, and the long-heavy ratio suggests many of them are dip-buying longs. A clean loss of $80,000 could trigger a liquidation cascade toward the $78,500 secondary support.

Fear & Greed: 63 (Greed), up from 53. Sentiment has jumped while price has done little, and greed alongside a falling price and crowded longs is a contrarian warning. On the macro side, the Nasdaq fell 2.15%, the S&P 500 fell 1.09% and the US 10-year yield rose to 5.1%, all of which weigh on risk appetite. The 24-hour OBV is trending down (distribution), MFI is 35.8, and price trades 0.17% below the 24h VWAP of $81,851.2, all pointing to sellers holding a slight edge.

Today’s Position Strategy

SHORT Setup (Primary)

Item Level
Entry zone $82,500 – $82,950
Target 1 $81,765 (Keltner mid)
Target 2 $80,560 (Keltner lower)
Target 3 $80,000
Stop (invalidation) $83,500; structural bias void above $84,500

The entry zone stacks the MA120, the $82,500 resistance, the 48-hour high of $82,900.5 and the Keltner upper band at $82,972. The stop sits about one ATR above the swing high. Crowded longs, OI rising into weakness, distribution on OBV and a soft Nasdaq with 5.1% yields make selling a bounce the higher-probability trade. A reclaim of $84,500 would cancel the bearish thesis entirely.

LONG Setup (Secondary)

Item Level
Entry zone $80,000 – $80,550
Target 1 $81,765
Target 2 $82,500
Stop (invalidation) $79,200

This is a range-floor bounce trade at the Keltner lower band and the $80K psychological level, with the stop roughly one ATR under the 48-hour low of $79,732. MACD momentum is improving and Stochastic has crossed up, so a defended $80K can produce a quick rotation back to the midline. Size it smaller than the short. If $79,700 breaks, long liquidations could push price quickly toward $78,500, so honor the stop without hesitation.

This post is market analysis, not financial advice, so size positions according to your own risk tolerance. If you trade these setups, the BingX and Bitunix fee-payback signup links are at the end of this post.

Conclusion: Bitcoin is coiled in a tight $80K to $83K range with longs crowding in, so fade bounces into $82,500 to $82,950 while $84,500 holds, and treat a break of $80,000 as the trigger for a faster flush.
