Bitcoin Short Setup Below $84K as RSI Hits 24.8

BTC/USDT 1H: $81,786. Bitcoin failed to hold the $83,000 area ahead of US inflation data. It has slid to the lower edge of this week’s range, between the 48-hour high of $84,134.2 and the 48-hour low of $80,985.0. Price now sits below every major moving average in a bearish stack, and short-term oscillators are deep in oversold territory.

Where price actually sits — PRICE 81,786, RSI 24.8

Indicator Analysis

Moving Averages

The MA20 is at $82,692.1, the MA60 at $82,933.8 and the MA120 at $83,047.9. Price is below all three, and the averages are in full bearish order, shortest on the bottom. This $82,700 to $83,050 cluster now acts as a layered ceiling. It overlaps the 24-hour VWAP at $82,731.6, which price trails by 1.14%.

→ Rallies into $82,700 to $83,050 face stacked resistance.

RSI (14)

RSI sits at 24.8, well under the 30 oversold line. That reflects strong selling pressure. It also means short-term downside is stretched, and late shorts entered here carry poor risk/reward.

→ Oversold, so avoid chasing shorts at current prices.

MACD

The histogram reads -112.1, below the zero line, but it is contracting and bullish momentum is building. Bears still control the trend, yet the pace of the decline is slowing.

→ Downtrend intact, but momentum hints at a relief bounce.

Williams %R

Williams %R at -87.5 places price near the bottom of its recent high-low range. Readings below -80 are classed as oversold. In a strong trend, though, they can stay pinned there for several candles.

→ Oversold condition supports a bounce, not a confirmed reversal.

ATR

The 1H ATR is $538.0, or 0.66% of price. That is a moderate hourly range. Stops tighter than roughly one ATR are likely to get clipped by normal noise.

→ Size stops at a minimum of about $540 to $800 from entry.

CCI (20)

CCI reads -84.5, which is negative and below the mean. It has not crossed into the -100 extreme zone. Bearish pressure is present, but CCI is less stretched than RSI.

→ Bearish bias, with room for one more leg lower before an extreme.

Stochastic

%K is at 12.5 and %D at 11.9, both deep in oversold territory. %K is edging just above %D, an early hint of a bullish cross from the bottom zone.

→ Watch for a confirmed cross above 20 as a bounce trigger.

Keltner Channel

Price is trading near the lower Keltner band at $81,272.4. The midline is at $82,413.5 and the upper band at $83,554.6. The Bollinger lower band sits nearby at $81,033.0, and Bollinger width is expanding at 4.01%. Both channels signal that price is at the lower boundary of its volatility envelope. ADX at 38.6 confirms a strong trend, so band rides are possible.

→ $81,000 to $81,270 is the first volatility floor; the midline at $82,400 is the first bounce target.

On-Chain & Positioning

No fresh readings for active addresses, stablecoin reserves or hashrate were available in today’s dataset, so those items are skipped. The chart below gives the broader on-chain picture. Flow-based data is clear, though. OBV has trended lower over 24 hours, with a delta of -77,393 BTC, which shows distribution. MFI at 21.9 confirms money leaving the market.

Bitcoin Short Setup Below $84K as RSI Hits 24.8

  • Funding rate: -0.0035%. Funding is slightly negative, so shorts are paying longs. Carrying a short position has a small cost, and short-squeeze risk exists if price pops.
  • Long/short ratio: 1.75, with 63.6% of accounts long. Retail accounts are leaning long into a falling market. Historically, that kind of crowding tends to fuel further downside flushes.
  • Open interest: -0.99% over 24 hours. Positions are being closed rather than opened, so this decline looks more like deleveraging than aggressive new shorting.
  • Fear & Greed: 62 (Greed), up from 57. Sentiment improved even as price slid, a mismatch that leaves room for disappointment.

On the macro side, risk appetite is weak:

  • The Nasdaq fell 1.88% and the S&P 500 fell 1.11%.
  • The dollar index rose 0.37% to 102.55.
  • The US 10-year yield sits at 5.19%.
  • The Korean kimchi premium is a modest 1.29%. BTC is trading around 111.1 million KRW, right on the 110 million KRW support.

Today’s Position Strategy

SHORT Setup (Primary)

Entry Zone Targets Invalidation (Stop)
$82,700 – $83,100 TP1 $81,800 / TP2 $81,000 / TP3 $80,350 $84,400 (above 48h and 7d highs)

The trend favors sellers. The bearish MA stack, the Ichimoku position below the cloud, ADX at 38.6 and falling OBV all point the same way. With accounts crowded 63.6% long, a rebound into the MA20/VWAP/Kijun cluster near $82,700 to $83,100 is the better-priced short. Do not sell into today’s oversold readings. Because funding is negative and squeeze risk is real, the stop goes just above the 7-day high of $84,340.2, and the trade is invalid on any hourly close above $84,400.

LONG Setup (Secondary, Counter-Trend)

Entry Zone Targets Invalidation (Stop)
$80,400 – $81,000 TP1 $81,800 / TP2 $82,700 $79,850 (below $80K psychological support)

RSI at 24.8, Stochastic near 12 and Williams %R at -87.5 make a technical bounce plausible. The zone between the 48-hour low of $80,985 and the 7-day low of $80,344.8 offers a defined area to test it. This is a scalp against a strong trend, so take partial profit at TP1 and keep size smaller than on the short. A clean break below $80,000 would open further downside and invalidates the idea.

The US CPI release is the main event risk today. Expect wicks beyond normal ATR around the print, and consider reducing size or widening stops proportionally rather than adding leverage. This post is market analysis for educational purposes, not financial advice. Manage your own risk.

If you trade these setups on futures, fee-payback signup links for BingX and Bitunix are at the end of this post.

Conclusion: The bias is mildly bearish. Fade rebounds into $82,700 to $83,100 with stops above $84,400, and treat $80,400 to $81,000 only as a tactical bounce zone.
