Bitcoin RSI Hits 84: Where to Buy the Pullback

BTC is trading at $84,634.7 on the 1H chart. It has rallied roughly $4,900 off the 7-day low of $79,732.3 and is now pressing against the 48-hour and 7-day swing high of $84,875.2. Trend structure is clean and strong. The open question is whether momentum this stretched pauses at the highs first or breaks through to new ones.

Where price actually sits — PRICE 84,635, RSI 84.4

Headlines confirm the push through $84,000, with crypto equities moving up alongside it. Some coverage notes oil and AI-related jitters capping upside, and risk assets were supportive overnight: the Nasdaq rose 1.05% and the S&P 500 gained 0.58%. The US 10-year yield at 5.15% is the main macro headwind. The dollar index is flat at 101.7.

Indicator Analysis

Moving Averages

Price is above all three moving averages:

  • MA20 at $83,687.3
  • MA60 at $82,683.4
  • MA120 at $82,197.5

They are in full bullish alignment. Price sits about $950 above the MA20, which is a meaningful stretch for an hourly chart. Ichimoku agrees: price is above the cloud (top $83,864.6), and the tenkan ($84,051.1) is above the kijun ($83,678.2).

→ The trend is up, and the MA20 near $83,700 is the first area where dip buyers should show up.

RSI

RSI(14) is at 84.4, well into overbought territory. In a trend with ADX at 74.0, overbought readings can persist for hours. Still, entering fresh longs at this level gives poor risk-to-reward. MFI at 81.9 confirms that volume-weighted buying is also stretched.

→ Overbought, not bearish. Wait for RSI to cool before adding long exposure.

MACD

The MACD histogram is positive at 62.5 and above the zero line. However, the computed direction flags a weakening, downward-leaning momentum read. Price is near its highs while the histogram is losing steam, which is an early sign that upside acceleration is fading.

→ Bullish bias intact, but momentum is decelerating. Expect consolidation rather than a vertical extension.

Williams %R

Williams %R reads -13.3, inside the overbought band above -20. Price is closing near the top of its recent range, which fits a market testing the $84,875 swing high.

→ A drop back below -20 would be the first short-term signal that the push is stalling.

ATR

ATR(14) is $449.7, or 0.53% of price. Hourly volatility is moderate, so a single-ATR stop is too tight given how extended price is. A buffer of 1.5 to 2 ATR (about $675 to $900) is more realistic.

→ Size positions so a roughly $900 adverse move stays within your risk limit.

CCI

CCI(20) is at 96.9, just under the +100 threshold. This contrasts with RSI and Stochastic, which are both deep in overbought zones. Momentum relative to the 20-period mean is strong but not extreme, so there is still room to extend before CCI flags an exhaustion condition.

→ A push above +100 alongside a break of $84,875 would confirm continuation.

Stochastic

%K is 86.7 and %D is 85.8. Both are overbought, with %K still holding marginally above %D. There is no bearish crossover yet, so short-term momentum has not rolled over.

→ Watch for %K crossing below %D above 80 as an early pullback trigger.

Keltner Channel

Price is trading near the upper Keltner band at $84,820.8. The mid-line is $83,863.8 and the lower band is $82,906.8. The Bollinger upper band sits higher at $85,186.8, with band width a normal 3.58%. Upside tends to run out quickly between these two upper bands.

→ The $84,820 to $85,190 zone is the near-term ceiling. The Keltner mid near $83,860 is the pullback target.

On-Chain & Positioning

Today’s feed has no fresh figures for active addresses, stablecoin supply or hashrate, so I am not quoting numbers for those. The broader read is that on-chain activity has been cooling. That argues against chasing breakouts and in favor of buying pullbacks. Spot flow tells a firmer story: 24-hour OBV is rising, with a delta of +74,307 BTC, which points to accumulation behind the move.

Bitcoin RSI Hits 84: Where to Buy the Pullback

  • Funding rate: 0.0006%. This is effectively neutral, with no sign of leveraged longs overpaying to hold positions.
  • Long/short ratio: 1.03, with 50.7% of accounts long. Positioning is balanced, which lowers the risk of a long-squeeze cascade.
  • Open interest: up 4.05% in 24 hours. New positions are entering with the rally, and since funding is flat, this does not look like crowded longs.
  • Fear & Greed: 63 (Greed), up from 55. Sentiment is improving but not euphoric.
  • Kimchi premium: 0.15%, with BTC at ₩112,598,000. Korean retail is not overheating.

Today’s Position Strategy

Fibonacci levels are measured on the 7-day swing from $79,732.3 to $84,875.2:

  • 0.382 retracement: about $82,910, which lines up with the $82,900 key support and the lower Keltner band
  • 0.5 retracement: $82,304
  • 0.618 retracement: about $81,697

Support levels are $83,400, then $82,900, then $80,500. Resistance levels are $86,600, then $88,000, then $90,000.

LONG Setup (Primary)

Entry zone Targets Stop
$83,700 – $84,100 TP1 $85,190 / TP2 $86,600 / TP3 $88,000 $82,850 (below 0.382 fib and $82,900 support)

The entry zone stacks several supports together: the MA20 ($83,687), 24-hour VWAP ($83,880), Keltner mid ($83,864) and tenkan ($84,051). An ADX of 74, a neutral funding rate and rising OBV all favor trend continuation. Wait for the pullback rather than buying at RSI 84, and scale out at each target.

SHORT Setup (Secondary, counter-trend)

Entry zone Targets Stop
$85,100 – $85,450 (only on a rejection wick) TP1 $84,050 / TP2 $83,700 $85,950 (about 1.5 ATR above the upper Bollinger band)

This is a fade of the upper-band zone. It is justified only by overbought RSI and Stochastic readings plus fading MACD momentum. Keep size small and take profit quickly at the tenkan and MA20, because the broader trend works against this trade. If price breaks down below $83,400 on a closing basis, the short thesis upgrades, with $82,900 and then $81,700 as follow-through targets.

Conclusion: the trend favors longs, but at RSI 84 the better trade is buying a pullback to $83,700–$84,100 with a stop under $82,900, not chasing price into $85,000.
