Bitcoin Short Setup Below $82.4K as Longs Crowd at 68%

BTC is trading at $81,394. That is below every major hourly moving average and pinned near the lower Bollinger Band after failing to hold the $84,800 area earlier in the 48-hour window. The structure is a slow grind lower inside a tightening range. The 7-day low at $80,622 is the next obvious magnet, and roughly $1B of ETF inflows was not enough to spark a bounce.

Where price actually sits — PRICE 81,394, RSI 45.2

Indicator Analysis

Moving Averages

Price sits under the MA20 ($81,654), the MA60 ($82,387) and the MA120 ($82,367). The MA60 and MA120 are nearly flat and converging, which reads as mixed alignment rather than a clean bearish stack. The $82,350 to $82,390 cluster is a dense overhead ceiling that any rebound must clear.

→ Rallies into $82.4K are selling opportunities until price reclaims that cluster.

RSI

RSI(14) at 45.2 keeps momentum on the soft side of 50 without reaching oversold territory. That leaves room for further downside before a mean-reversion bounce becomes statistically attractive. MFI at 33.8 confirms that money flow is leaning out of the market.

→ Neutral-bearish momentum. There is no oversold signal to justify buying here.

MACD

The histogram prints -8.2 below the zero line, and the direction reads as downside momentum being maintained or strengthening. The magnitude is small, which fits the compressed volatility. Even so, sellers still hold the momentum edge.

→ Bearish bias stays intact until the histogram flips back above zero.

Williams %R

At -65.2, Williams %R is in the lower half of its range but has not reached the -80 oversold threshold. Price is closing nearer the bottom of recent ranges without being washed out.

→ More room to the downside before an exhaustion signal appears.

ATR

ATR(14) is $347.5, just 0.43% of price. Together with a Bollinger width of 0.92% flagged as a squeeze, this points to unusually quiet conditions. Squeezes like this tend to resolve with a sharp expansion, and ADX at 28 says the prevailing trend has real strength behind it.

→ Expect a volatility break soon. Size stops at 1.5 to 2.5x ATR rather than tighter.

CCI

CCI(20) at -141.5 is well below -100, which shows a strong downside impulse relative to the recent mean. This can mean stretched conditions, but in a trending market (ADX 28) it more often confirms trend strength than signals an imminent reversal.

→ Strong bearish impulse. Do not fade it blindly.

Stochastic

%K at 34.8 has crossed above %D at 29.3 after dipping toward oversold. This is the one short-term bullish tick on the board. It supports a minor relief bounce toward VWAP or the Keltner midline more than a trend change.

→ A small bounce is likely. Use it to position, not to chase.

Keltner Channel

Price is below the Keltner midline ($81,602), with the lower band at $80,855 and the upper band at $82,349. The lower band almost exactly overlaps the 48-hour swing low ($80,889), which makes $80.6K to $80.9K a key test zone. The upper band lines up with the MA60/MA120 cluster.

→ $82.35K is the ceiling and $80.85K is the first floor.

On-Chain & Positioning

Today’s dataset does not include fresh readings for active addresses, stablecoin supply or hashrate, so this section leans on derivatives and flow data rather than guessing at those trends. One notable flow signal: 24h OBV is rising by about 6,743 BTC even as price slides. That bullish divergence suggests spot accumulation underneath the derivatives-driven weakness.

Bitcoin Short Setup Below $82.4K as Longs Crowd at 68%

  • Funding rate: +0.0067%. This is mildly positive. Longs are still paying to hold, so the selloff has not yet flushed bullish leverage.
  • Long/short ratio: 2.11, with 67.9% of accounts long. Crowding is heavily one-sided, which is the classic setup for a long liquidation sweep rather than a short squeeze.
  • Open interest: -3.33% over 24h. Some positions have closed, but with funding still positive the shakeout looks incomplete. The 78.5K area is where long liquidations are expected to cluster.
  • Fear & Greed: 50 (Neutral), down sharply from 68. Sentiment has cooled fast but is nowhere near the fear readings that usually mark durable lows.

Macro is not helping. The US 10-year yield is at 4.99% (+0.71%), the dollar index is firmer at 101.75, and the S&P 500 fell 0.52% as AI stocks slipped and oil climbed. The Korean premium sits at 1.08%. On the local side, 80K (about 106M KRW) is support and 110M KRW, premium included, is the upper resistance.

Today’s Position Strategy

SHORT Setup (Primary)

Entry Zone Targets Stop
$82,000 – $82,400 T1 $81,280 / T2 $80,700 / T3 $80,000 $82,900

The entry zone stacks the upper Bollinger Band ($82,028), the upper Keltner Band ($82,349) and the MA60/MA120 cluster, which together form a thick resistance shelf. The stop sits just above the Ichimoku cloud top ($82,878), roughly 1.5 ATR beyond the zone. Crowded longs, positive funding and price below the cloud all favor a sweep toward 80K. If the Stochastic bounce stalls first at VWAP ($81,603), a partial entry there is acceptable.

LONG Setup (Secondary, conditional)

Entry Zone Targets Stop
$80,000 – $80,400 (after sweep and reclaim) T1 $81,280 / T2 $81,600 / T3 $82,300 $79,400

Only take this after a wick below the $80,622 seven-day low that closes back above it. Ideally that should come with funding turning negative or OI starting to rebuild after the flush. The rising OBV supports a bounce case once leverage is cleared. If price slices through $79,400, the 78.5K liquidation pocket is likely in play, so stand aside rather than average down.

This is market analysis, not financial advice. Size positions to your own risk tolerance. Fee-payback signup links for BingX and Bitunix are at the end of this post if you want to cut trading costs on these setups.

Conclusion: below $82.4K the bias is short. Sell the rebound into the MA cluster, target the 80K liquidation zone, and only flip long after a confirmed sweep and reclaim.
