BTC is trading at $78,435.6 on the 1H chart. It sits below every major moving average after a 48-hour range between $81,953.7 and $76,444.0. The recovery attempt from the $76.4K low has stalled just under the Ichimoku cloud, and the market is now deciding whether $79K turns into resistance or gets reclaimed.
The backdrop is heavy. The Binance hack headlines, a hawkish Fed tone and a 1.38% drop in the Nasdaq have pushed risk assets lower. The Fear & Greed Index fell from 51 to 30 in a single session.
Indicator Analysis
Moving Averages
Price is below the MA20 ($79,253.8), MA60 ($80,245.5) and MA120 ($80,217.1). The longer averages are bunched together, and the MA60 and MA120 sit almost on top of each other, so overall alignment is mixed and converging rather than cleanly stacked. The MA20 is the first overhead barrier and lines up with the $79K resistance zone.
→ Bias stays bearish while price holds below the MA20 near $79.25K.
RSI (14)
RSI is at 31.2, close to oversold but not there yet. This leaves room for one more push lower before a technical bounce becomes likely. Combined with an MFI of 23.4, it shows money has been flowing out of the market, not just price drifting down.
→ Downside is not exhausted, but chasing shorts near $76.5K carries bounce risk.
MACD
The histogram is at -9.6, below the zero line, but it is shrinking, so bullish momentum is building from a negative base. This is the classic look of selling pressure fading after a flush. It does not confirm a reversal until the MACD crosses back above zero.
→ Momentum is improving, so expect choppy rallies into resistance rather than a straight-line drop.
Williams %R
At -55.5, Williams %R sits in the middle of its range, neither oversold nor overbought. Price has bounced off the extreme lows and is now in neutral territory, which gives sellers room to press again from higher levels.
→ No exhaustion signal either way; levels matter more than this oscillator today.
ATR
The 1H ATR is $871.7, or 1.11% of price. With the Bollinger Band width at 7.34% and expanding, volatility is elevated. Stops tighter than about half an ATR are likely to get clipped by noise.
→ Size positions so a stop of roughly $700 to $900 fits your risk budget.
CCI (20)
CCI reads -42.2, mildly negative and well above the -100 oversold threshold. That matches a market that has recovered from its lows but has not regained bullish strength. It also points to a slow grind rather than a sharp trend leg right now.
→ A mild bearish lean, consistent with selling rallies.
Stochastic
%K at 44.5 is slightly above %D at 42.6, a small bullish cross in the mid-zone. This supports the idea of a short-term bounce toward resistance. The cross is weak and far from oversold, so it carries limited conviction.
→ A near-term drift up toward $79K is plausible, which is where short entries become interesting.
Keltner Channel
Price is below the Keltner midline ($78,929.3). The lower band is at $77,361.8 and the upper band at $80,496.8. The midline nearly coincides with the cloud top and VWAP area, forming a dense resistance cluster between $78.9K and $79.2K. The lower band is the natural first downside target.
→ Sell strength into $78.9K to $79.2K and target the $77.4K lower band.

On-Chain & Positioning
Several flow measures support the bearish read:
- OBV: fell by about 45,101 BTC over 24 hours, a clear sign of distribution.
- VWAP: price sits 0.84% below the 24-hour VWAP ($79,097.5), so the average buyer of the day is underwater.
- ADX: at 40.9, the current move is a strong trend, not random drift.

- Funding rate: 0.0043%, essentially neutral. Shorts are not crowded, so there is little squeeze fuel on the short side.
- Long/short ratio: 2.38, with 70.4% of accounts long. Retail is still leaning heavily long despite the drop.
- Open interest: +0.07% over 24 hours. Leverage was not flushed even after roughly $1.5B in liquidations, so long positions remain exposed to another cascade.
- Fear & Greed: 30 (Fear), down from 51. Sentiment flipped fast but has not reached extreme fear.
- Kimchi premium: 0.47%, a modest premium that shows no panic or frenzy from Korean buyers.
On the macro side, the S&P 500 slipped 0.3% and the Nasdaq lost 1.38%. The dollar index eased 0.21% to 101.83, and the 10-year yield dipped to 4.99%. A softer dollar is not giving BTC much lift while tech stocks are selling off.
Today’s Position Strategy
SHORT Setup (Primary)
| Item | Level |
|---|---|
| Entry zone | $78,900 – $79,250 |
| Target 1 | $77,360 (Keltner lower band) |
| Target 2 | $76,500 (1st support / near 48h low $76,444) |
| Invalidation (stop) | $79,900 (1H close above) |
The entry zone stacks the Keltner midline, VWAP, MA20 and the cloud bottom and top, so rallies into it should meet supply. Positioning backs this up: 70.4% of accounts are long and open interest did not shrink, which leaves liquidation fuel below $77K. A reclaim of $79K with a close near $79.9K breaks the structure and the short thesis is void.
LONG Setup (Secondary, counter-trend)
| Item | Level |
|---|---|
| Entry zone | $76,450 – $76,800 |
| Target 1 | $77,700 (Tenkan-sen) |
| Target 2 | $78,900 (Keltner midline) |
| Invalidation (stop) | $75,550 (about 1 ATR below the 7d low) |
This is a bounce trade only. It relies on the 7-day low at $76,444 holding, RSI moving toward oversold, and the MACD histogram already turning up. Keep size smaller than on the short. If $76.4K breaks cleanly, the next meaningful support is $74K, and longs should not be held into that gap.
Watch for headline risk from movements of the hacker wallets. Any visible BTC transfers to exchanges could accelerate the drop toward $76.5K regardless of what the oscillators say. ETH is following the same structure, with support at $2,150 and resistance at $2,350.

Conclusion: sell rallies into $78.9K to $79.25K targeting $77.4K and $76.5K; a 1H close back above $79.9K flips the bias neutral.
