Bitcoin Short Setup Below $80K After Binance Hack Selloff

Bitcoin is trading at $77,368 on the 1H chart after a sharp slide from the 48-hour high of $81,953.7 to a low of $76,270. Reports of a major Binance hack weighed on the market alongside a broad risk-off move in US equities. Price has bounced off that low and is now coiling in a tight range, but the larger hourly structure still shows lower highs below a declining moving-average stack.

Indicator Analysis

Moving Averages

Price sits just above the MA20 at $77,181.9, but well below the MA60 at $78,765.7 and the MA120 at $79,611.9. The averages are in bearish alignment, with the short MA below the longer ones. The reclaim of the MA20 is a short-term relief signal, not a trend change. The MA60 and MA120 are the first real overhead tests.

→ Short-term bounce inside a bearish MA structure; $78.7K–$79.6K is the resistance band to watch.

RSI (14)

RSI reads 54.2, slightly above the midline. This shows momentum has recovered from the selloff without reaching overbought territory, so there is room for a further push higher before buyers get stretched.

→ Neutral to mildly bullish; no reversal signal in either direction yet.

MACD

The histogram is positive at 119.0 and expanding, which means bullish momentum is building. However, the MACD is still below the zero line. That is a typical pattern for a corrective rebound within a downtrend rather than a confirmed new uptrend.

→ Upside momentum is improving, but it remains below zero, so treat rallies as counter-trend.

Williams %R

Williams %R is at -18.4, just inside the overbought zone above -20. Price is trading near the top of its recent lookback range. That raises the odds of a pause or pullback on the short timeframe.

→ Short-term overbought; chasing longs here offers poor risk/reward.

ATR (14)

ATR is $366, or 0.47% of price, which is a compressed reading after the recent $5.7K swing. Low hourly volatility combined with a Bollinger squeeze (band width 1.34%) usually comes before an expansion move. Stops should allow for at least one to two ATR of noise.

→ Volatility is coiled; size positions for a breakout of $700–$1,100 in either direction.

CCI (20)

CCI stands at 60.6, positive but below the +100 threshold that would mark a strong trending push. This fits a steady recovery that has not yet turned into an impulsive breakout.

→ Positive bias, no extreme; momentum supports a test of nearby resistance only.

Stochastic

%K is 81.6 and %D is 77.2, so both lines are in overbought territory with %K above %D. The bullish cross is intact for now. However, readings above 80 on the hourly chart often roll over quickly when price meets resistance.

→ Overbought with the cross still bullish; watch for %K crossing below %D as a short trigger.

Keltner Channel

The Keltner midline is $77,386.9, with the upper band at $77,924.0 and the lower band at $76,849.8. Price is sitting fractionally below the midline. The Ichimoku cloud bottom at $77,384.9 and the Kijun at $77,523.2 cluster in the same area, which forms a dense resistance pocket directly overhead.

→ Price is stuck at the channel midline; a rejection here points back to $76,850.

Overall, ADX at 25.9 confirms a trending environment, and the trend on this structure is down. On the other side, OBV has risen over 24 hours (+12,096 BTC), MFI is at 61.4, and price is holding 0.13% above the 24h VWAP of $77,263.8. Some dip buying is clearly taking place underneath.

On-Chain & Positioning

Today’s dataset does not include fresh readings for active addresses, stablecoin supply or hashrate, so we will not quote figures for those. The chart below gives the broader on-chain context.

Derivatives positioning tells a clearer story:

  • Funding rate: 0.01%, which is neutral, so longs are not yet paying a heavy premium.
  • Long/short ratio: 2.69, with 72.9% of accounts long. That is a crowded long book after a sharp drop, which leaves fuel for further liquidations if support breaks.
  • Open interest: down 1.08% over 24 hours. A $5K+ decline flushed only a small share of positions, so leverage has not been meaningfully reset.
  • Fear & Greed: 30 (Fear), unchanged from yesterday. Sentiment is cautious, but it is not at the capitulation extremes that typically mark durable bottoms.

Macro conditions add pressure. The Nasdaq fell 2.86% and the S&P 500 dropped 1.82%, and gold slid 3.29% as well. The dollar index eased 0.16% to 101.88. The Korean premium is a modest 1.0%, with BTC at ₩104,347,000, still above the ₩100M psychological floor.

Today’s Position Strategy

SHORT Setup (Primary)

Entry Zone Targets Invalidation (Stop)
$78,700 – $79,600 (MA60 to MA120); partial scale-in possible at $77,900–$78,000 (Keltner upper) T1 $76,850 / T2 $76,270 / T3 $75,000 Hourly close above $80,500

The moving averages are in bearish alignment, MACD is still below zero, and Ichimoku shows price under the cloud with the Tenkan below the Kijun. Together these keep the higher-timeframe bias pointed down. A crowded 72.9% long book with barely reduced open interest leaves room for a liquidation leg. Stochastic and Williams %R are already overbought, which favors fading rallies into the MA60–MA120 band rather than shorting the current midline.

LONG Setup (Secondary)

Entry Zone Targets Invalidation (Stop)
$76,300 – $76,700 (48h low to Bollinger lower band) T1 $77,500 / T2 $78,700 $75,900 (about 1 ATR below the $76,270 swing low)

OBV accumulation, a positive and rising MACD histogram, and price holding above VWAP show buyers defending the lows. A retest of the $76,270 swing low offers a tight-risk bounce trade back toward the Kijun and MA60. This is a counter-trend scalp, so take profits quickly and keep size smaller than on the primary short.

With the Bollinger squeeze in place, expect a decisive break soon. An hourly close below $76,270 would open the way to the $75K first support and $74K second support. A reclaim of $80,500 would cancel the bearish scenario. This is market analysis, not financial advice, so manage your own risk and position size. Fee-payback signup links for BingX and Bitunix are at the end of this post if you want to cut trading costs on these setups.

Conclusion: The bias stays short below $80.5K, so fade rallies into $78.7K–$79.6K and treat any dip to $76.3K only as a quick counter-trend long.
